About

Idkat is a SuperMicro SuperServer 4048B-TR4FT

This machines is quad socket Intel Xeon Haswel-EX and can support up to 4 PCI-E 16x accelerators (e.g. GPU, MIC) but none are provided for now.

Full hardware specs
  • 4x Intel Haswel-EX E7-4830 v3 (4x 12 cores = 96 threads total)
  • 256 GB DDR4
  • 2x Intel SSD
  • Infiniband FDR
  • 2x 10Gbps Ethernet
    • eth0: G5K production VLAN (same as all other machines in the site)
    • eth1: dedicated 10GE VLAN (same a Ppol eth2) => no ip configuration by default
Software

The machine uses Grid'5000's Debian jessie-x64-std as its default environment (OS). Besides, the machine is kadeployable.

Gotcha

The machine happens to have a "kworker" process which consumes 100% of the logical CPU 0 (easily shown by the top command). This seems to be due to a badly handled ACPI interrupt. The following command shows that a lot of interrupts happen on gpe24:

Disabling the interrupt removes this behavior:

This fix is integrated in kadeploy preinstall of idkat (see /etc/cron.d/gpe24-fix), hence is applied to the default environement as well as any system deployed by a user which makes use of the file.
